(jiří macek) The installation of a jewelry collection, designed by Zdeněk Vacek and Daniel Pošta for this year’s Designblok in Prague, ranks among those exhibitions that are able to change one’s life. One will be given wings within a mere area of 10 m2.
One can find the Bye Bye Birdie jewelry collection on a black table in a set of glass temples. Tiny opuses of joy and gentle humor, plus leaves tremble and blow wind under one’s skin, hover on fragile perches. “This collection represents a journey back through time - we stopped for a while and put together our ideas from the past several years,” explain Daniel Pošta and Zdeněk Vacek.
The collection’s aesthetics and mood are derived from the Nympha collection, for which Zdeněk Vacek won the Talent of the Year Award at Designblok ’05. Organic shapes on the borderline with cosmic ships, beetles, and flowers all served as a basis for the collection, which includes over 34 models in total. Thus, everyone can choose earrings in several variants - a pendant, a bracelet, and a brooch in every range. Stainless-steel components with a blue and silvery surface are complemented with river pearls, textiles, and perspex in the form of delicate leaves. High-tech details harmonize with the fragility and sentiment of the entire collection.
Even though Zdeněk Vacek and Daniel Pošta present their work together for the first time at Designblok, they have collaborated on all of Vacek’s previous jewelry presentations. If you still remember them, they have always ranked among the best installations at Designblok events. A bamboo cave for the Nympha collection, little cakes inhabited by tiny figures, a wax landscape with rings – these are all miniature and great installations. However, their cooperation continued beyond Vacek’s installations - they have co-designed several awards, such as the Fresh Film Fest Awards, the Mezipatra Festival Awards, the Company of the Year Award, and the Best Bank Award.
The Bye Bye Birdie installation by Zdeněk Vacek and Daniel Pošta can be found on the second floor of Superstudio Classic 7 on Jankovcova street 49 in Holešovice.
