(jana zielinski) On the occasion of the centennial birthday anniversary of the legendary designer George Nelson, Vitra has prepared a special edition of the Pretzelchair that he designed in 1952. The edition of this chair will be made from jacaranda wood. Only 1,000 pieces will be manufactured and designated primarily for collectors.
The American designer George Nelson (1908-1986) was one of the most significant designers of the 20th century. He was also a graphic designer and author of many theoretical essays on design and architecture. The Vitra Design Museum has prepared a retrospective exhibition dedicated to Nelson following its very successful exhibition projects dedicated to other prominent figures of world design – Le Corbusier, Marcel Breuer, Charles, and Ray Eames. The exhibition dedicated to Nelson, the creator of the famous Marshmallow Sofa and the Coconut Chair, opens in the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein on September 13, 2008.
