(jana zielinski) One of the most awaited events of this year’s Designblok will surely be the new collection by Sklárny Květná – winner of Manufacturer of the Year at the 2006 Czech Grand Design Awards. One should definitely look forward to this collection. Květná will present a new set of beverage glasses designed by Martin Žampach that is absolutely breathtaking.
What inspired him? A pear, of course, as Martin Žampach says. He explains, “It was a tree that I planted in our garden many years ago. The basic element of this collection is a geometrically constructed shape of two overlaying circles that are interconnected by a line on the margins in order to form a shape reminiscent of a pear. The bigger circle is cut in two thirds and creates the edge of the glass.” Martin Žampach – a 27-year-old designer and a graduate from the Studio of Industrial Design at Tomas Bata University – founded his first studio this year. Before that, he spent one year in Spain, where he won the Best Spanish Designer 2007 award as part of the Culde Sac studio from Valencia. One can only congratulate him for the Pear. However, his favorite fruit is still a nectarine.
