(jiří macek) Forget the photos that you carry in your wallets. Wear your loved ones directly on your heart. You can find them in a collection of brooches by Jiřina Riantová that are made from felt and framed.
One can find family portraits in every family. They hang in important places inside every household. They are the libraries of our families. As time passes, the method of depicting family members changes. Next to oil paintings of our grandparents and a drawing of our great-grandfather, there are now digital photos. Jiřina Riantová transferred the charm of such portraits into the world of jewelry. For example, a petite Japanese girl, two dachsies, a boy with a girl, a newly wed couple were all made from felt. One can also choose from a felt blond man, a redhead, or a horse. The naivety of the individual scenes and drawings is very disarming. Try to put one of them on your dress and you will see. Blond men will immediately want children.
These family stories are a topic that Jiřina developed in her necklaces that she made at the end of last year. Even though the scenes from family life looked as if they had been cut out from cutouts, they were reminiscent of a landscape from a distance, they were really cutouts made from vliselin. Apart from the felt and vliselin, Jiřina Riantová also uses colorful glass beads and silver. Her silver brooch, shaped like a roe-calf, appeared in several magazines. It can also be found in the Křehký exhibition collection. Nevertheless, how does she make these brooches?
“I usually envision my brooches already made in my head. So I just go and create them. Or perhaps I’ll do some drawings first. Then, I extract one part of the drawing and make a brooch from it. In this way, I extract it from its own life to carry it on further. I like things to have a story and enjoy thinking such stories up,” she explains in an article in Blok magazine.
Brooches by Jiřina Riantová can be bought in the Klára Nademlýnská boutique and in the Tribu boutique in the Franciscan Garden.
