Daniel Piršč: Simon & Garfunkel

(jiří macek) I cannot forget some scenes from the installation by Daniel Piršč in Superstudio A7 Holešovický pivovar, perhaps because winter has come so abruptly and determinedly. The new edition of porcelain wallpaper and light probably brought out the atmosphere of spring the most out of all the spring installations.

One could not escape Daniel Piršč at Designblok this year. Visitors still have an opportunity to admire the Panathenai dining set designed for Křehký in the Česká spořitelna Gallery, as well as the installation for Vitra in the Prague Zoo, which has been prolonged by one week due to its great success. One could talk about these two projects for hours. The porcelain wallpaper, which Daniel Piršč first presented at Designblok two years ago and developed into endless variations in the new edition, deserves a special chapter.

Combined with painting, the wallpaper has turned into a wall sculpture with a plot that can develop depending on one’s imagination. Waves rushing across an endless lake, birds flying through a fine net of sprigs, touching one another with wings, kissing…These are delicate illumined drawings from a quest of supreme beauty. In his installation, Piršč brought up another issue on which he has focused for some time – shining flowers. Roses were complemented with crocuses. Thus, only Simon and Garfunkel were missing at the installation. This could easily be kitsch if it did not involve such playfulness, perfection, exaggeration, and frankness. The wallpaper is truly beautiful.
