(adam štěch) The polythematic Monocle magazine has complemented its unique offer of products once again. All products are created in collaboration with traditional manufacturers from all over the world. Thus, the brand of Malmsten has joined such renowned names as Ettinger, Comme des Garcons, Artek, Havaianas, Bill Amberg, and Woolrich. The less known Malmsten might be, the more authentic it becomes.
Monocle magazine, i.e. a three-year project from the ingenious creative artist Tyler Brulé, who established the legendary Wallpaper magazine, is a very sophisticated and information-dense periodical that focuses on global culture with excursions into economics, ecology, architecture, design, fashion, and contemporary style. The incredible ability of Tyler Brulé and the editorial team consists in finding the most interesting topics worldwide and collaborating with the most prominent brands from respective fields in the form of Monocle limited editions, which can be purchased in the magazine’s online store or in Monocle boutiques in London and Los Angeles.
The latest contribution to the collection resulted from a cooperation with the Swedish furniture manufacturer of Malmsten, which has created the Ovalen IV table and the Golvlampa floor lamp made from wood and a design inspired by the 1920s. Malmsten has been synonymous with quality Scandinavian design and crafts for almost a century. The brand was founded by designer Carl Malmsten, who preferred modern furniture concepts within the Swedish craft tradition to a cold, functionalist approach. Both of the pieces designed for the Monocle collection give this impression as well. For the 21st century, the brand upgrades the wooden lamp with a paper shade and a practical side table, plus an oval-shaped minimalist table. The project also included opening the Monocle x Malmsten Seasonal Shop in Stockholm, which offers selected products of Comme des Garcons, Drakes, Porter, and many others.
