Designblok: Superstudio 2010 at Vltavská

(jiří macek) Although the deadline for this year of Designblok is coming close, we already know where the Superstudio will be located. Visitors have a lot to look forward to because the Superstudio will be situated at a great location – in the exceptional functional building designed by architects Benš and Kříž in 1927-35.

The Designblok Superstudio will be located at the address of the former Palác Elektrických podniků in Prague 7 in the immediate vicinity of the Vltavská metro station from October 5-10, 2010. It will be entitled Superstudio Bubenská 1 and will offer over 6,000 m2 of area for presentations from companies, designers, fashion designers, schools, and institutions. An integral part will also include the traditional VIP lounge, a refreshment zone, and an information centre.

The former Palác Elektrických podniků belongs to Orco. This is a highly exposed place from an urban-planning perspective, situated on the corner of the Hlávka bridge. This magnanimous symmetrical building, with a light ceramic facade, looks out over one of Prague’s main arteries. The Designblok Superstudio will occupy five floors of the architecturally impressive edifice, designed by Adolf Benš and Josef Kříž and built from 1927 to 1935 with a dominating and impressive staircase hall. Visitors to Designblok will have a unique opportunity to see an exceptional building and take a ride in a paternoster elevator that does not stop anywhere.
