Jerry Koza: Wooden Vibrations

(jiří macek) The wooden Tonda handlebars implemented in Ton not only develop the local tradition of wood bending, which originated the Thonet chair, but also introduce an unexpectedly friendly t-o-n-e into the world of biking, which only wood is able to provide to sports. Surfers can tell you about it.   ...more

Handa Gote: Shadows and Glimpses

(jiří macek) Even though Handa Gote is primarily an ensemble of incredible theatre performers (one should really see their performances such as Mushrooms, Rain Dance, and Metal Music), their work with light, staging, costumes and old technologies takes them more and more often into the world of design. At Designblok this year, they had a joint exhibition with the Institute of Lighting Design and a solo exhibition in the Window Gallery of Česká spořitelna. Both installations are definitely a must.   ...more

Hana Zárubová: Breaking The Waves

(jiří macek)Hana Zárubová designed a quilted painting for the Miracles Archive exhibition at EXPO 2010 from which one can unclamp a circular down feather jacket. This motif and the fundamental circular principle were subsequently reflected in an entire collection from the No. label, entitled no.kolo. However, Hana Zárubová presented her latest fix-you collection at Designblok with which she has resurfaced and broken the circles made by water skaters.   ...more

Olgoj Chorchoj: Meadows and Sledges

(jiří macek) The magical snow-white installation in the form of a gigantic U-ramp with which the company of Ton presented itself at Designblok would probably have been just a beautiful mannerism if there had not been a very unusual product standing next to the collection of new chairs – a charming sledge designed by Olgoj Chorchoj.   ...more

Boris Klimek: Vidiečan

(jiří macek) When reporting about diploma works, we must mention the most appraised diploma work at the AAAD in Prague – a modest and delicate furniture collection designed by Boris Klimek from the studio led by František Burian in Zlín. Apart from the obligatory axe, the collection also encompassed pastureland poetics.   ...more

Jan Plecháč: Icons

(jiří macek) For his AAAD diploma work entitled Icons, Jan Plecháč tore into the world classics only with the help of wire in his hand with the considerable task of conjuring the spirits and endowing them with new life. The stories that he managed to create with wire on a contour line represent a fascinating study of the history of design and a powerful collection of outdoor seating furniture.   ...more

Yveta Kroupová: An Amazing Clamp

(jiří macek) Yveta Kroupová designed an unconventional decoration for men’s shirts during her stay in Iceland. Even though the decoration was allegedly designed for a specific shirt, it opens up a very interesting option for the development of ties, which have become rather boring due to the perpetual trends of narrowing and broadening.   ...more
